What it is

Play from an inside-and-behind position, taking away the inside throw and relying on help over the top.

Why it matters

Deliberately concedes the outside shoulder deep because a safety has it. Only sound when the coverage structure actually provides that help - trail with no help is a post waiting to happen.

Also called

Programs call this trail man or inside trail. The Coach answers to any of them.
