Man coverage
What it is
Each defender is responsible for a receiver rather than an area, and goes where that receiver goes.
Why it matters
Man is a matchup answer: it travels with motion, it does not care about route distribution, and it frees extra defenders to rush or rob. The cost is that a beaten defender has no help unless the call provides it, and every eligible receiver must be accounted for before the snap. Coached as leverage plus technique — know where your help is, take away the half of the field it cannot cover, and play the receiver's hips rather than his shoulders.
Also called
Programs call this man, man-to-man, MEG or matched. The Coach answers to any of them.
See it on the field
Man underneath with one safety over the top, which is what lets corners play inside leverage. The alignment comes from the engine’s own front resolver against real offensive splits, so it is a picture the simulator genuinely produces — not a diagram drawn to make a point.
