Run fit
What it is
The complete accounting of every gap and the perimeter by eleven defenders on a given run.
Why it matters
A fit is sound when every gap has an owner and the edge has a force player on each side. Most run-defence failures are fit failures rather than missed tackles - two defenders in one gap means another is empty. Fits change with front, stunt and safety rotation, so they must be taught per call, not in general.
Also called
Programs call this fitting the run or gap accountability. The Coach answers to any of them.
