Stalk block

What it is
A receiver blocking a defensive back in space, mirroring him rather than driving him.
Why it matters
Stalk blocking is patience, not violence: the receiver breaks down under control, keeps his feet moving and stays between the defender and the ball for as long as the run lasts. The most common failure is lunging — a defensive back in space only has to make a receiver miss once. Every perimeter run in football depends on somebody being willing to do this for three seconds with the ball nowhere near him.
