Stem

DefenseTechniqueDTDEILBOLBS

What it is

Moving from one alignment to another before the snap to disguise intent.

Why it matters

Stemming forces the offensive line to re-identify the front late, disrupting protection calls. Risk is being caught mid-movement at the snap, so stems are timed off the cadence.

Also called

Programs call this stemming or shifting late. The Coach answers to any of them.

See it on the field

The same personnel showing one front, ready to be another. The alignment comes from the engine’s own front resolver against real offensive splits, so it is a picture the simulator genuinely produces — not a diagram drawn to make a point.
