Back-shoulder throw

OffenseTechniqueQBWR

What it is

A ball thrown short and behind a vertical route, to the shoulder away from the defender.

Why it matters

The back shoulder exists because a corner in perfect trail position is beaten by geometry rather than by speed: he is running away from a ball he cannot see, and the receiver stops and comes back to it. It is the answer to a defender playing with vertical leverage and no ball awareness, and it requires a pre-snap agreement — a back-shoulder ball thrown to a receiver still running deep is an interception.
