Bracket

What it is
Two defenders on one receiver — one taking the inside and one the outside, or one under and one over.
Why it matters
A bracket is what a defense does when one receiver is genuinely better than the man across from him. It costs a defender somewhere else, so the call is really a decision about which other matchup you are willing to lose. Taught as a division of the receiver rather than a double team: each defender owns half of him and neither chases the half he does not own.
Also called
Programs call this double, in-out bracket or cone and bracket. The Coach answers to any of them.
