Drive block
OffenseTechniqueOLCGTTE
What it is
A straight-ahead block that moves the defender backwards off the line.
Why it matters
The simplest block and the rarest one won cleanly, because a defender who is expecting it can simply avoid being driven by moving. It is a short-yardage and double-team technique above all — the measure of it is vertical displacement, and that comes from pad level and hip drive rather than from arm strength.
Also called
Programs call this drive, base block or move him. The Coach answers to any of them.
