Fold block

OffenseTechniqueOLCGT

What it is

Two adjacent linemen exchange assignments — one blocks down while the other steps behind him to the linebacker.

Why it matters

A fold solves a leverage problem created by alignment: rather than ask a guard to reach a shaded nose, the centre takes him and the guard folds behind to the linebacker. It is the offensive-line equivalent of a defensive line game, and it is defeated the same way — by penetration that gets into the exchange before it happens.
