Inside leverage
What it is
Aligning on the inside shoulder of a receiver to take away everything breaking in, with help expected outside or over the top.
Why it matters
Inside leverage is the standard in any coverage with a post safety, because the throw it concedes — the back-shoulder fade and the out — is the longest and hardest one in football, while the throw it denies is the quickest. The error is playing it without checking the call: inside leverage in a coverage with no deep middle help is the exact alignment a go route wants.
