Tackle (T)

OffensePositionTOL

What it is

The outermost linemen, responsible for the edge in the run game and for the edge rusher in protection.

Why it matters

Tackle is the most isolated job on the line: one man in space against the defense's best athlete, usually with no help. The pass set is the whole position — depth, kick-slide and inside hands against speed, then anchor against the counter power move. The left tackle's premium exists only because most quarterbacks throw right and cannot see that side.

Also called

Programs call this T, tackle, left tackle, blind side or edge protector. The Coach answers to any of them.
