Quarter turn

What it is
Turning the hips about forty-five degrees out of the pedal to run with a vertical release without fully opening.
Why it matters
The quarter turn buys speed without surrendering vision: the defender can still see the release and break on an in-breaking route, which a full turn takes away. Its purpose is to delay the moment of commitment for as long as the receiver's stem allows. Turning too early hands the receiver the inside; turning too late means running from a standstill, which no corner wins.
