The secondary
What it is
The defensive backs — corners, safeties and nickel — who play coverage and are the last line of the run fit.
Why it matters
The secondary is the only group whose errors are always visible and usually final: a missed fit up front costs yards, a missed assignment behind it costs a touchdown. Its defining requirement is communication, because nearly every coverage bust is two players playing two different calls rather than one player losing a matchup.

Programs call this DBs, the back end, secondary or the third level. The Coach answers to any of them.

A slot defender who has to cover like a corner and fit like a linebacker. The alignment comes from the engine’s own front resolver against real offensive splits, so it is a picture the simulator genuinely produces — not a diagram drawn to make a point.
