Slow play / read at the line

DefenseTechniqueDEOLBEDGE

What it is

Do not commit upfield; stay square at the line of scrimmage and read the mesh before declaring.

Why it matters

Used against option and RPO to avoid being blocked by the offense's read. The defender stays square, keeps both the dive and the quarterback in front, and reacts after the ball declares. Costs pass rush; buys assignment soundness.

Also called

Programs call this slow play the mesh, stay square or feather. The Coach answers to any of them.

Watch it run

This one is in the simulator. The read is measured off the simulation as it plays — nothing about the outcome is scripted.
