Cover 2
What it is
Two deep safeties split the field in halves, with five defenders underneath.
Why it matters
The corners are not deep defenders in Cover 2 — they squat, jam the release and take away the flat, which is why the technique is so different from a Cover 3 corner. The known weakness is the hole behind the corner and in front of the safety, exactly where a corner route or a deep out lives; the other is four verticals stressing two safeties. It is a coverage that wants to make you throw underneath and then tackle you.
Also called
Programs call this two deep, cover two or two-shell. The Coach answers to any of them.
See it on the field
Two safeties split the deep field; the corners are short-zone players, not deep ones. The alignment comes from the engine’s own front resolver against real offensive splits, so it is a picture the simulator genuinely produces — not a diagram drawn to make a point.
