Dagger
What it is
A vertical route by the inside receiver clears the middle, and a dig behind it fills the space he vacated.
Why it matters
Dagger is a two-step lie: the seam route pulls the safety and the hook defender vertically, and the dig comes in behind them at fifteen yards into the space they just left. It is a seven-step concept, so it needs real protection, and it is the standard answer to a two-high shell where the middle of the field is open.

Running it
Inside receiver runs a hard vertical up the seam to carry the safety and the hook defender. The outside receiver runs a dig at fifteen, breaking in behind them. Seven-step drop; the ball comes out as the dig comes open, which is late — protection is part of the concept.
Stopping it
Do not chase the clear-out. The hook defender must recognise the vertical as bait and stay at his depth to wall the dig, while the safety carries the seam. This is the concept that most rewards pattern match over spot drop, because a matched defender passes the vertical off and stays in the dig's window. Failing that, the answer is rush — dagger takes time it may not have.
