End man on the line of scrimmage (EMLOS)
What it is
The outermost defender on the line of scrimmage to a side. Most run-fit and option rules are defined relative to this man.
Why it matters
Identifying the EMLOS is the first read for option responsibility and for most force/contain rules. The EMLOS can be a hand-down end, a stand-up edge or a walked-up outside linebacker depending on front and personnel.

Programs call this EMOL, edge or end man. The Coach answers to any of them.
