Half-man relationship
What it is
Staying on one half of a receiver rather than square behind him, so the half you own is genuinely taken away.
Why it matters
The instinct in man coverage is to mirror the receiver squarely, which covers neither half of him and turns every break into a guess. Half-man is the discipline of accepting that you own one half and help owns the other: your eyes, your hips and your near hand all live on your half. It is what makes a bracket work and what makes trail technique survivable.
Also called
Programs call this half man, half-man leverage or own your half. The Coach answers to any of them.
See it on the field
The same two-deep shell as Cover 2, but the underneath defenders have men rather than areas. The alignment comes from the engine’s own front resolver against real offensive splits, so it is a picture the simulator genuinely produces — not a diagram drawn to make a point.
