Returner (KR, PR)

What it is
The player who fields kickoffs and punts and returns them.
Why it matters
The returner's first job is a decision, not a run: field it, fair catch it, or let it go. Getting that wrong costs more field position over a season than any return gains. On punts especially, the catch is made with a coverage team arriving at full speed, which is why ball security is coached ahead of everything else in the role.

Programs call this KR, PR, returner, fair catch or the return man. The Coach answers to any of them.
