Single high
What it is
One safety in the deep middle, with the rest of the coverage played underneath him.
Why it matters
Single high is what buys an extra defender for the run fit, and everything underneath is built on the assumption that he is there. Corners take inside leverage because he has the post; the middle of the field is closed. A quarterback's first pre-snap read is almost always whether that safety is alone, because it changes which half of the field the concept is being thrown into.

Programs call this one high, MOFC, middle of field closed or post safety. The Coach answers to any of them.
