Yankee

What it is
A deep crossing route under a post, designed to move the single high safety and throw behind him.
Why it matters
Yankee is a two-man shot play against single high: the post occupies the safety and the deep cross comes across into the space he vacated. It takes time, so it is almost always paired with play action, and it is a coverage-specific call — against two-high it has no answer and should be checked out of.
Also called
Programs call this yankee, post-cross or shot play. The Coach answers to any of them.
