Cover 2 man

DefenseCoverageCBSILBOLB

What it is

Man coverage underneath with two deep safeties over the top.

Why it matters

The two-deep shell lets underneath defenders play trail technique with everything inside and short taken away, because anything deep runs into a safety. It is the call of choice when a defense wants man principles without exposing itself to a double move. The cost is that only five rush or drop underneath, so a quarterback who escapes the pocket finds every defender's back turned to him.

Also called

Programs call this two man, 2-man under or man under two deep. The Coach answers to any of them.

See it on the field

The same two-deep shell as Cover 2, but the underneath defenders have men rather than areas. The alignment comes from the engine’s own front resolver against real offensive splits, so it is a picture the simulator genuinely produces — not a diagram drawn to make a point.
